Our beloved mother and grandmother, Wilma Richardson Foster shed her earthly bonds peacefully at her home in Whitehead, NC surrounded by family on December 6th, 2023.
Wilma was born February 18, 1936 in Whitehead to Ross Emmett Richardson and Mabel Estep Richardson. After her graduation from Sparta High School, she married Paul Jones Foster of North Wilkesboro, NC. The couple moved to Arizona while Paul was in the US Airforce. They then moved to Dallas, Texas where Wilma worked for Texas Instruments and Paul for Braniff Airlines. While in Texas their daughter Mabel Kathryn was born. The family returned to Whitehead where Wilma worked many years for New River Mental Health and Paul taught at Alleghany High School.
Wilma took great joy in spreading joy to others. She loved hosting large get togethers of family or friends. Her love for cooking was enjoyed by all who attended these events. She had a beautiful soprano voice and loved singing and playing piano at the Laurel Spring Baptist Church. She also enjoyed collecting antique glassware, angels and everything Christmas. Her early 1900's family home was a treat to visit in any season.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and siblings; Ross Dean Richardson, Irene R Wagner and Alda R Hayhurst. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Foster, (Steve Hayden), her grandson Jesse A Lamm (Melissa), her sister Carol R. Sellers and sister in-law Betty B Richardson. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends who also survive.
The family will honor her at the graveside of her husband. A Celebration of Life for this truly beautiful woman will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at her favorite place in the world, her home at 5783 Pine Swamp Rd., Sparta. She wanted a casual and informal gathering, with a brief time to share personal thoughts and memories.
Memorials may be made to the Laurel Springs Baptist Church and the Liberty Memorial Cemetery Fund, in care of Milly Richardson, P.O. Box 1893, Sparta, NC 28675.
