William Paul Edwards, age 92, of 228 Kemp Street, Sparta, NC; passed away Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 at Alleghany Center in Sparta.
Paul was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. He was retired from the Department of Agriculture. He volunteered with the Soil and Water Conservation and served on it's board for many years. After his retirement from the Department of Agriculture, he was a mail carrier for 20 years. He was a member of the Sparta Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department where he served as secretary and treasurer for over 35 years. Paul enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent carpenter.
Paul was born March 7th, 1931 in Alleghany County to the late Cary and Catherine Nielson Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Emery Edwards; three sisters: Evelyn Crouse, Helen Hampton, and Dorothy Collins.
Survivors include his spouse, Lois Brooks Edwards of the home; two sons: Bill Edwards and wife Julie Beth of Yemassee, SC, Mike Edwards and wife Rhoda of Thurman; five grandchildren: Jonathan Belotti, Samantha Slade (Chris), Cole Edwards, Troy Edwards, Ethan Edwards; two great-grandchildren: Luciano Belotti and Jaylon Slade; two brothers-in-law: J.D. Brooks (Lorraine), Wade Brooks (Susan); a sister-in-law, Treva Bridges (Albert); nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Paul will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 30th, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Brother Ed Hall officiating and comments made by his grandson, Cole Edwards. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post 7034 of Sparta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
