Walter John Hattrich, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Sparta on February 10, 2022 with his wife and daughter by his side.
Walter was born March 5, 1928 in Elizabeth, NJ. He was one of eight children born to James and Lillian Snyder Hattrich. A lifelong devoted Catholic, Walter attended Sacred Heart Catholic School as a child and as a teenager began working at Singer Sewing Machine Manufacturing Company both located in Elizabeth, NJ. Walter was drafted into the army during World War II and was stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He then returned to work at Singer Manufacturing Company as a machinist where he worked for 38 years, advancing during his time there to a Quality Control Inspector.
Walter is predeceased by his parents, James and Lillian, his seven siblings, Vincent, Joseph, James, John, Lillian, Gertrude and Mary and a niece and two nephews. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Myra Burley Hattrich, his daughter, Donna Cushlanis and his triplet grandsons, William, Jared and Nathan of Galloway, NJ. Walter is also survived by five nieces and one nephew.
Walter and Myra retired to Sparta, NC in 1992. Walter volunteered for many years for Alleghany Cares. He loved gardening, reading, his grandsons’ dog Dakota, and most of all being with his family.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and services will be private. Memorials may be made to Twin Oaks Animal Shelter, 2970 U.S. Hwy. 21, Sparta, NC 28675.
His family and friends are asked to remember Walter as the kind and caring soul that he was and to keep him, his family and your own families always in your thoughts and prayers.
