Walter Lee Hampton

Walter Lee Hampton, age 87, of Sparta, NC passed away Monday, April 14th, 2025 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.

Walter was born January 12th, 1938 in Alleghany County to the late Eugene and Virginia Phipps Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Angie Terrell; a brother Joe Hampton. Walter enjoyed tractors and guns. He was a founding member of the Alleghany Rifles Association, taught hunters safety, a member of the Old Time Tractor Puller Association, a life long member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, and the president of the church cemetery committee for many years, and was a mentor to many students throughout his career.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Thelia Hampton of the home; two sons Dale Hampton and wife Jamie of Sparta, Tommy Hampton of Sparta; three grandchildren, Joseph Hampton and wife Taylor of Sparta, Corey Hampton and fiance Jasmine of Sparta, Connor Hampton of Sparta; three brothers, Wayne Hampton of Sparta, John Hampton of Sparta, James Hampton and wife Shelia of Osseo, Wisconsin; a son in law, Frank Terrell; extended family and many special friends also survive.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grayson Rehab, Twin County Hospital, and Wolts Hospice Home for the exceptional care they provided to Walter.

Funeral services to honor the life of Walter will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 21st, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Pastor David Serven officiating. Internment will follow in the Shiloh UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
