***COURTESY OBITUARY***
Virginia Jewell Melton Reynolds age 92 of Galax VA passed away Tuesday June 11, 2024. She was born
August 30, 1931, in Carroll Co VA the daughter of the late Benjamin H Melton & Elsie Allen Melton Clark,
she was preceded in death by her husband George Reynolds, several siblings, a son Jeff Reynolds, a son-
in-law Jerry Bobbitt & a great grandson Carson Street.
From the time she entered this world as the surviving twin, at a pound and a half, Jewell has been a
fighter. She was born in Carroll County, VA to the late Benjamin Harrison Melton and Elsie Mae Allen, of
the Notorious Allen’s of Carroll County. She was one of three biological siblings - BH, Lucy Bell, and
Jewell.
Jewell has always loved the simple life beginning with working on the farm instead of household chores
like her Mom and Sister. She graduated from Hillsville High School and proceeded to work on the family
farm until she met the love of her life, George Reynolds, in 1949. Then the formation of the Reynolds
family began for which she was ever so proud of. From then she spent her life providing for her family as
a designer at Wonder Knit until her retirement in 1993. During these years she had her fair share of
hardships including her losing her son, Jeff, in 1979, Husband George in 1995. Since then, she had two
battles with Colon Cancer and one Major Heart Attack - which she fought through them like it was
nothing. She continued to be a devout and faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, leading multiple
children to Christ through Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She kept asking towards the end
“What in the world have I done in 92 years?!” You have raised a wonderful family for which you were so
proud of. Shown everyone the most grace and love. Led numerous to Christ through your dedication to
church. She had a life most wish to in 92 years of living. 92 years wasn’t enough time for you. We
can only imagine your homecoming, on the morning of June 11th, 2024.
She is survived by her daughter Judy Bobbitt of Galax VA, 2 sons & daughters-in-law James “Jimmy”
