Theodore "Ted" R. Dorsett, Jr., age 81, of Sparta, NC; passed peacefully at his home on Monday, August 18th, 2025.
Ted was born April 15th, 1944 in Forsyth County, NC to the late Theodore R. Dorsett, Sr. and Hazel Sink Dorsett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son in law, Johnny Davis Burke, Jr.; a step-son, William Bryan Adkins; a sister, Marilyn Dorsett Whitman; a brother, Melvin Dorsett.
Ted retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co., he served on the Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission, and for many years helped with the Hillbilly and Comedy Show while serving on the Alleghany Planning Committee. He, along with his wife Dottie managed the Alleghany Jubilee for several years, was a member of the Piedmont Sportsman Club, Inc., and received the North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from Governor Mike Easley. He coached baseball for many years and was very involved with John and Tyler in racing in Winston-Salem. He enjoyed being involved with his children and grandchildren's sports and activities, and he loved the outdoors and going to the coast to fish.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie Thompson Adkins Dorsett of the home; two children: Tammy D. Burke of Midway, NC and Kenneth Scott Dorsett of Montgomery County, NC; two grandchildren: John Tyler Burke and Taylor Davis Burke, both of Midway, NC; two step-children: Jonathan Lewis Adkins of Charlotte, NC and Gary Frederick Adkins and wife Amanda of Sparta; seven step-grandchildren: William Cody Adkins and wife Ashley of Lynchburg, VA, Casey A. Muncus and husband Zach, Justin Adkins and wife Jenna, Brianna Adkins, Jake Adkins all of Sparta, Drew Adkins, and Sarah Adkins both of Charlotte, NC; five step-great-grandchildren: Noah Muncus, Ansley Muncus, Easton Adkins, Brooks Adkins, Maverick Adkins; a brother: Archie Dorsett and wife Beverly of Winston-Salem; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends also survive.
A memorial service to honor the life of Ted will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 23rd in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Brother Ed Hall officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice in honor of Ted.
