Susie (Gentry) Miller

Evelyn "Susie" Gentry Miller, age 65, of 1778 Memorial Park Dr., Sparta, NC 28675; passed away Monday, January 3rd, 2022 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC.

Susie was born February 6th, 1956 in Alleghany County, NC to the late Edward Lee and Ruby Smith Gentry. She was a retired elementary teacher with Alleghany County Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparta where she was active in the church choir and hand-bell choir. She was very active in her career as a teacher and community with many memberships to include NC DKG Women Educators Society, NCRSP, NC Bluebird Society, Advisory Board of Stone Mountain State Park, Alleghany Writers, Solid Rock Food Closet Board, and Foothills Corvette Club. She received her National Board Teaching Certification and was recognized as NC Entomology Teacher of the Year.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Tom Miller of the home; a son, Chris Miller and wife Christy of Sparta; a sister, Betty Ann Crouse and husband Junior of Glade Valley; four brothers: Wade Gentry of Galax, VA, Carroll Gentry and wife Melva of Ennice, Jimmy Gentry and wife Angie of Glade Valley, Bobby Gentry and wife Jane of Ennice; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Susie will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 7th, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Sparta with Pastor Matt Harris and Reverend John Attaway officiating. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
