Susan Swenk Obituary
Susan Blanchard Swenk, age 66, of 471 River Run Lane, Sparta; passed away peacefully Thursday, January 28th, 2021 at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville, NC.
Sue was born February 10th, 1954 in Boston, Massachusetts at Lyons Hospital to the late Guy Blanchard, Sr. and Mary Giordano Blanchard. As a young adult, she married and moved to Virginia and began to start her family of five children.
She went to Wytheville Community College and took classes in dentistry and surgical procedures. She moved on to Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem and studied surgical procedures and dental implants. Moving on to Virginia Beach, she went to work with Doctor Robert Whitmore and also worked at Virginia Beach General Hospital and Norfolk General Hospital. In 1990, she moved to Sparta, North Carolina to her forever home. She opened Foxfire Realty with husband Duane, shifting careers from Nursing to Marketing.
Left to cherish the memory of Sue is her husband, Duane of the home; a son, Aaron Correll of Fries, VA; three daughters: Kristina Nelson and husband Jacob of Summerfield, NC., Erica Swenk of Sparta, Jennifer Swenk and husband Dustin DeBord of Glade Valley; a step-son, Kevin Swenk and wife Jennifer of Raleigh; nine grandchildren; two brothers: Guy "Chip" Blanchard, Jr. of San Diego, CA., Kenneth Blanchard and wife Marlene of Greenville, SC; a sister, Patricia Gregory and husband William of Simpsonville, SC; several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family also survive.
A Private Family Graveside will be held at Sparta Cemetery with Reverend Ben Gatton officiating. No formal visitation will be held. A Register Book will be available at the Funeral Home for anyone who wishes to sign.
Due to Covid-19, the family respectfully ask for no visitors at their respective residences.
In lieu of food and flowers, memorials may be made to Medi-Home Hospice of Alleghany, PO Box 1287, Sparta, NC 28675.
