Shirley (Turnmire) Dixon

Shirley Ann Turnmire Dixon, age 80, of Sparta, NC; passed away Monday, May 19th, 2025 at her residence.

Shirley was born April 9th, 1945 in Ashe County, NC to the late Riley James and Myrtle McCoy Turnmire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Joseph Frank Dixon; two sisters: Patsy Walton, Frances Pugh; three brothers: Ralph Turnmire, Joe Turnmire, Roger Turnmire. Shirley attended Sparta Full Gospel Church and enjoyed cooking, cleaning, canning, quilting and crocheting.

Survivors include a son, Leroy Dixon and wife Lynn of Sparta; seven grandchildren: Wyatt Salter, Jack Wiggins, William Wiggins, Noah Wiggins, Brandi Wiggins, Josh Baldwin, Stephanie Walker; three great-grandchildren: Harper Salter, Casey Salter, Taylor Baldwin; a sister, Hazel Hopkins of Jefferson, NC; two brothers: Howard Turnmire and wife Kathleen of Creston, NC, Jim Turnmire and wife Gail of West Jefferson, NC; two sisters-in-law: Sophia Turnmire of Jefferson, NC, Linda Atwood of Damascus, VA; a brother-in-law, Hillery Dixon and wife Betty of Laurel Springs, NC; Several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services to honor the life of Shirley will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Linda Mabe and Randy Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in the Mabe Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
