Samuel Johnson Obituary

Dr. Samuel Rogers Johnson was born on April 16, 1981, in Sparta, North Carolina, the son of long-time dentist, Terry Johnson, and dental hygienist Martha Rogers Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Lynd Johnson, son, Cooper Lynd Johnson, brother, Zachary Johnson, aunts and uncles, Robert Rogers and wife Deborah, Robin Spainhour and husband Kevin, Linda Hall, special friend, Justin Dalton, and beloved pets Beauty and Atticus.

Growing up on a beef cattle and horse farm, Sam loved the outdoors, especially farming with his mom, dad, and brother, riding horses, kayaking, and rock climbing. He had the natural ability to master nearly any hobby he chose to pursue. In high school he played tennis (wearing blue jeans and cowboy boots) and played the trumpet in the marching band. He was very active in Boy Scouts, earning the coveted title of an Eagle Scout. Following high school, Sam went on to graduate with his bachelor's degree from NC State in Animal Science. He then earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech. As a veterinarian, he practiced on both large and small animals. Sam's greatest pride and joy in life was his son, Cooper. Together they enjoyed fishing, riding horses, and gaming.

After an extended, courageous fight, Sam unfortunately lost his battle with depression. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many. May Sam's life be a reminder to continue to check on your loved ones and to be kind to one another, and may his battle provide courage to those struggling with the same illness, to reach out and seek help.
