Ruby (Brown) Billings

Ruby Brown Billings, age 103, of Sparta, NC; passed away Sunday, November 24th, 2024 at Margate Health and Rehab in Ashe County, NC.

Ruby was born in Alleghany County, NC on May 28th, 1921 to Luther and Laura Evans Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Odell Billings; sons, Dale Billings and Paul Billings; son-in-law, Steve Joines; and a granddaughter, Teresa Billings Alexander.

Survivors include three sons and spouses: Ray and Teresa Billings of Wytheville, VA, Wade and Peggy Billings of Wytheville, VA, and Kenneth Billings of Lynchburg, VA; one daughter, Wanda Joines of Sparta; one daughter-in-law, Louise Billings of Kernersville, NC; eight grandchildren: Beth Ladd, Therron Billings, Michael Billings, Jason Towler, Lynn Monahan, Allen Joines, Dawn Dotson, and Megan Hicks; eighteen great-grandchildren: Amy Woodfin, Sarah Pearce, Mary Ann Ladd, Monica Burk, Zack Ladd, Chance Towler, Morgan Johnson, Ryan Billings, Levi Billings, Matthew Billings, Ethan Monahan, Luke Monahan, Avin Joines, Chase Glass, Brooklyn Glass, Laken Billings, Riley Mooneyhan, and Harper Hicks; several great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. She lived up to her name. Ruby was a devoted Christian wife, loving mother and grandmother. She worked at Grabow Pipes in Sparta until she retired in 1983. She lived at her home for 99 years with the help of family and Ethel Fender. She spent the last 3 1/2 years at Margate Nursing and Rehab where she received wonderful care, but was looking forward to when she would be in her heavenly home. She loved to fix large meals for her family and would have every vegetable and dessert imaginable.

Funeral services to honor the life of Ruby will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
