Roy Kyle Owens, age 92, of Ennice, NC; passed away on Monday, June 2nd, 2025 at his residence.
Roy was born in Grayson County, VA on April 3rd, 1933 to the late John and Cora King Owens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Carico Owens whom he was married to for 44 years; a daughter, Betty Jo Owens; one brother; seven sisters; a very special companion, Lillie Atwood, of which we always called them, "two peas in a pod."
Survivors include a daughter, Beckie Post and fiance Lynn Shaw of Woodlawn, VA; a son, Lonnie Owens of Ennice, NC; three grandchildren: Austin Owens of Low Gap, NC, Ayla Owens of PA, Ashton Owens of PA; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; extended family whom he loved dearly and spent many years with; Janie Murphy, Louise Higgins, John R. Cox (John Boy to dad) (Evalena), Betty Maines and Diane Proffit (Rick) whom he said they were like daughters to him. To this day, they all still considered dad as family.
Roy was a very special man to many people. He was very proud of the life he led. He loved the Lord and lived for the Lord. He set the example for all of us to put the Lord first, before any other and then family. He always said, if you put your faith in the Lord, he will take care of you and relieve you of your burdens and sickness. He was so ready to go home to the Lord. Up until April 16th, he still drove his truck and mowed his yard at 92. He was a jack of all trades. Up until he got sick, he grew tomato plants to give away to family and community members. He was the one people came to for reading the signs on Raymond's calendar to when they should plant vegetables.
To say being blessed is an understatement. We can only hope to try to make him proud of us all.
A graveside service to honor the life of Roy will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 6th, 2025 in Edmonds Community Cemetery with Reverend Mark Carico officiating. No formal visitation will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017.
The family respectfully asks for no food or visitors at the home.
