Roy Vernon Houser

Roy Vernon Houser, age 88, of 190 Buchanan Road, Roaring Gap, NC; passed away Thursday, January 19th, 2023 at his residence.

Roy was born February 25th, 1934 in the Whitehead Community of Sparta to the late Raymond Craig and Alice Mae Hamm Houser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Baldwin Houser; a brother, Raymond Houser, Jr.; a sister, Ruby Owens.

Roy served his country in the US Army. Roy married the love of his life, Shirley. He was a loyal husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a long-time Pastor, Barber and was a member of Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post# 7034 where he served for many years as Chaplain. He also was a member of Sparta Masonic Lodge #423 AF&AM.
Survivors include two children: Stan Houser and wife Sara of Sparta, Jeff Houser and wife Deloris of Roaring Gap; four grandchildren; Justin Houser of Wilkesboro, Steffanie Schmidt (Jonathan) of Reidsville, Jonathan Houser (Jessi) of Glade Valley, Kristin Gatton (Drew) of Clairmont; five great-grandchildren: Evan Houser, Sallie Houser, Etta Houser, Keagan Gatton, Sylus Houser; two step-grandchildren: T.J. Arnold (Raegan) of Clarksville, FL, Bridgette Earman (Thomas) of Wendell; four step-great grandchildren: Wyatt Arnold, Austyn Arnold, Savi Earman, Wyatt Earman; step great-great granddaughter, Ellie Arnold; loyal canine companion, Midge; extended family and many friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Roy will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 24th, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Pastor Joel Stamper and Chaplain Dave Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in the Whitehead Community of Sparta. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
