Roger Lee Lineberry

Roger Lee Lineberry, age 72, of Sparta, NC passed away on June 25, 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Carrol County, VA to Ila Faye Moseley and the late Harry Lee Lineberry on September 19, 1949.

Roger was a beloved member of Little River Primitive Baptist Church, joining on June 2nd, 1991 after being baptized with his wife. He served as a Deacon of the church for 31 years, treasurer for 16 years, and secretary for 13 years.

Roger served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, earning the rank of Sergeant, and remained in the Army Reserve until 1976. Roger retired from the Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department in 2003 after serving for over 20 years, fulfilling the role of Captain for most of that time. He also took pride and enjoyed his employment at Bottomley Evergreens over the last 10 years.

Outside of professional commitments, Roger was involved in a plethora of leisure organizations. He proudly represented the Sparta Bass Club for nearly four decades, serving as secretary and treasurer for a majority of that time. Roger was an avid beekeeper, participating in the local Beekeepers’ Association and annually extracting honey to share with family and friends. He enjoyed deer hunting, driving his 1980 Corvette, and was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Amidst his variety of hobbies, Roger prioritized time with his family as well as taking care of his cats and “feathered friends”. He is deeply cherished by his family and was a beloved husband, father, Pawpaw, and servant of the Lord.  

He is proceeded in death by his father, Harry Lee Lineberry, and his Mother-in-Law, Marjorie Caudill. Roger is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Lineberry of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Lineberry of Glade Valley, NC and Amy and husband Brett Walsh of Piney Creek, NC; one granddaughter, Jade Shepherd (fiancé, Tucker) of Mouth of Wilson, VA; one grandson, Tayler Shepherd of Glade Valley, NC; his mother, Ila Faye Moseley of Galax, VA; and two sisters, Linda and Gus Hill of Galax, VA and Melody and Butch Spurlin of Low Gap, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Roger will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 30th, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Elder Stephen Dillard, Elder James McNeil, Elder James Wyatt and Ken Cummings officiating.  Interment will follow at Zion Primitive Baptist Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post # 7034 of Sparta.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29th, 2022 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
