Richard Leon Carter, age 94 of Sparta; passed away Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin.
Richard was born July 5th, 1930 in Lebanon, NH to the late Oscar and Bibian Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Perot and a sister, Claudia Stewart. He served his country, retiring from the US Air Force with over 20 years of service and then later enlisting in the US Army where he served 8 years.
Richard is survived by a son, Marc Carter and wife Lee Ann of Greenville, SC; a granddaughter, Marie Schultz and a great-granddaughter, Callie Schultz both of Greenville, SC.
Richard will be remembered at the Palm Sunday Mass at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Sparta at 11:15 am on April 13th, which will be offered for the repose of his soul. A private graveside was held on March 20th.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Landings of Chestnut Grove and his St. Frances of Rome family for helping to make Richard's last few months so joyful.
