Rexford Monroe Wyatt, age 81, of Laurel Springs; passed away Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.
Rex was a longtime resident of Alleghany County. He served in Law Enforcement in Alleghany County for over 27 years. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Sparta Police Department. He loved the outdoors and woodworking. He was a member of Pine Fork Baptist Church for over 50 years, a member and past Master of Sparta Masonic Lodge #423 AF&AM, a past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the board of directors for the Alleghany Honor Guard.
Rex was born July 19th, 1940 in Ashe County to the late Huston McKinley Wyatt and Maude Richardson Wyatt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Wagoner Wyatt; a infant son; five brothers: Thomas, Joe, Bill, Jim, and David Wyatt; two sisters: Cleo Howell and Ann Taylor.
Survivors include two sons: Roy Jeffrey Wyatt and wife Deborah of Glade Valley, Gregory Alan Wyatt of Sparta; two granddaughters: Isabella Nicole Wyatt of Sparta, Mattie Grace Wyatt of Washington State; a brother, John O. Wyatt and wife Linda of Sparta; three step-grandchildren: Mark Shaw and wife Heather of Statesville, Matthew Shaw and wife Jenna of Thurmond, Laura Shaw of Tualatin, OR; eight step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Rex will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 19, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Wagg officiating. Alleghany Honor Guard will provide honors. Masonic Graveside Rites will be presented by Sparta Masonic Lodge #423 AF&AM at New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
