Ray Wooten

Walter "Ray" Wooten, age 80, of Sparta, NC; passed away Thursday, February 20th, 2025 at Lotus Village in Sparta, NC.

Ray was born August 8th, 1944 in Alleghany County to the late Charlie and Lena Brinegar Wooten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Edd Mack Wooten, Paul Wooten and Jimmy Wooten. Ray worked ad Dr. Graybow Pipes for 38 years. He enjoyed singing and playing guitar.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Wooten and wife Kim of Sparta; a daughter, Susan Wooten and fiance Keith Sines of West Jefferson; five grandchildren: Joshua Wooten of Sparta, Kayley Murphy and husband Houston of Sparta, Avery Sheets of Millers Creek, Abigayle Sheets of West Jefferson, Aaron Sheets of West Jefferson; five sisters: Rose Hudson and husband Jim of Sparta, Sarah Moxley and husband Donny of Ennice, Reba Todd and husband Curtis of Ennice, Linda Hash and husband James of Sparta, Karon Holliday and husband Paul of Lewisville; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services to honor the life of Ray will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, February 24th, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Elder Gwyn Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Landmark Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
