COURTESY OBIT
Randall “Randy” Gwynn Caudill passed peacefully on March 31st, 2026, at 11:15pm at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, after an almost 3 ½ year journey with lung cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Gale Hill Caudill, his daughter Kimberly Caudill Weddle, and his son-in-law, Travis Allen Weddle. Randy was the son of E.S. Caudill and Helen Jennings Caudill, who both preceded him in death.
He was a devout husband, father, son, friend, and disciple of the Lord. Randy loved his church family at Fairlawn Church of Christ in Galax, VA where he was an Elder for many years.
Randy was born on January 29th, 1959, in Galax, VA. Randy, or as some of his friends called him “Gawk”, grew up in Ennice, NC and graduated from Alleghany High School, Sparta, NC in 1977. He later attended Surry Community College and Appalachian State University.
Randy and Gale Caudill celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on Sept 22, 2025.
Randy worked at Mt. Rodgers IDC in Hillsville, VA for 30+ years before he retired in 2020, after previously working at Southwest Virginia Training Center and Lowes Foods. He was an active member of the Galax Moose Lodge, Cowboy Fast Draw Association, and the Single Action Shooting Society. He loved all things western, especially John Wayne. Randy loved to make people laugh and he always had a good story or joke to tell. He will be greatly missed by so many, but we know that he is no longer in pain because he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Special thanks go to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carilion Hospice, Dr. Joseph Mock and staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Dr. Arthur Pemberton and staff, Twin County Home Health, Medi Home Health, Pulaski Health and Rehab, and Highland Ridge Rehab Center, along with so many friends and family who have helped us all through this journey.
The family will have a viewing and service on Friday, April 10th, 2026, at Fairlawn Church of Christ, 344 Coleman Ridge Rd. Galax, VA, 24333. The viewing will be from 12-2pm with a Celebration of Life starting at 2pm and burial will follow in the Fairlawn Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to Fairlawn Church of Christ, 344 Coleman Ridge Rd. Galax, VA, 24333, in honor of Randy.
