Granvil Paul Wagoner, age 88 of Sparta; passed away Sunday, November 30th, 2025 at The Landings of Chestnut Grove in Sparta, NC.
Paul was born May 20th, 1937 in Alleghany County to the late James Wiley and Faye Brooks Wagoner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Delp Wagoner; two sons: Gregory Alan Wagoner and Ryan Anderson Wagoner; a sister, Clara Frances Smith; two nephews: Ronald Smith and Wiley Smith; Hilda Wagoner Souther, former wife and mother of Greg and Paula.
Paul was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a graduate of Sparta High School Class of 1954. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army. His hobbies included being a natural musician, playing golf, and being a car and motorcycle enthusiast. Paul was a member of Piney Creek Masonic Lodge #432 AF & AM serving as Past Master and District Deputy Grand Master representing Alleghany, Ashe, Wilkes and Watauga Counties, and was a member of New River Shrine Club. Over his working career, He was a Supervisor with Blue Ridge Shoe Factory, Co-Owner of Quality Tractor - Massey Ferguson Dealership, Plant Manager of Dr. Grabow Pipes Sparta, Co-Owner of the Country Junction and of G & G Farms.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Wagoner Miller and husband Chip of Springdale, AR; a daughter-in-law, Rita Wagoner of Sparta; four grandchildren: Lindsay Todd and husband AJ of Sparta, Lauren Irwin and husband Jacob of Sparta, Gordon Paul Miller of Berryville, AR and Cullen Gregory Miller of Springdale, AR; four great grandchildren: Stella Todd, Saylor Todd, Kinley Irwin, and Kimberlin Irwin all of Sparta; a special sister-in-law and caregiver Linda W. Delp and brother-in-law Archie Delp of Sparta; four nephews: Austin Delp, Morgan Delp and wife Mylee, Dwight Smith and wife Pattie, and David Smith and wife Penny; extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Paul will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, December 6th, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Reverend Mark Carico officiating along with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery with full military graveside rites performed by the US Army and the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW post #7034 of Sparta.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Landings at Chestnut Grove, Medi-Home Hospice of Alleghany and Linda W. Delp for the care given to Paul.
The family would ask that anyone wishing to bring food, please take to the VFW Post 7034 in Sparta after 1:00 pm on Saturday for a fellowship meal following the graveside service.
