Oscar "Bill" Joines

Oscar Cecil "Bill" Joines, age 87, of 1748 US Hwy 221 Sparta, NC; passed away Thursday, July 2nd, 2020 at his residence.

Bill was born December 6th, 1932 in Alleghany County to the late William Franklin and Nannie Edwards Joines. He served his country in the US Army. He was a Supervisor for Troutman Industries until his retirement. He enjoyed farming as he could. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed sports and loved watching them all but mostly enjoyed watching UNC Tarheel Basketball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Lundy, Ray, Astor, Howard and Alvin Walton Joines; a sister, Evelyn Pittman.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rosamond Maines Joines of the home; a daughter, Becky Miller and husband Jeff of Sparta; two grandchildren: Cory Higgins of Seattle, WA., Megan McNary and husband Josh of El Dorado, KS; many nieces and nephews whom were all very special to him, also survive.

Graveside services to honor the life of Bill will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, July 4th, 2020 at Shiloh UMC Cemetery with Pastor Joel Stamper officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post 7034 of Sparta.

The family will receive friends at the home at your convenience up until 3:30 pm on Saturday prior to the service.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, we respectfully ask that mask be worn when visiting the home and for services to protect everyone involved.

The family would like to thank his friends at Grace Community Church of Sparta, for their love and support, including prayers, phone calls and visits over the last couple of years during his illness and a very special thank you to Scott Simmons for his devotion to caring for Bill over the last two years.
