McKinley "Kent" Luther Turnmire

McKinley "Kent" Luther Turnmire, age 96, of 179 Combs Street, Sparta, NC; passed away Sunday, September 17th, 2023 at Lotus Center in Sparta.

He was born April 5th, 1927 in Ashe County to the late Emmitt and Ada May Turnmire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mae Wiles Turnmire; five brothers: Major, Dean, Iven, Charlie and Raymond Turnmire; a sister, Emma Wiles.

Survivors include a step-son, Dean Wiles and wife Anita of Sparta; two sisters: Betty McCoy and husband James of Nathans Creek, Ann Stike and husband Paul of Warrensville; three step-grandchildren: Jason Wiles, Scotty Eggert, and Amy Kennedy; three step-great-grandchildren: Adien Eggert, Phoenix Eggert, and Haleigh Wiles; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Kent will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 24th, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Wagg officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in the Stratford Community of Sparta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
