Mary Lou Bare Higgins, age 82, of 44 Clyde Street, Sparta, NC; passed away Sunday, July 28th, 2024 at her residence.
Mary was born July 15th, 1942 in Ashe County to the late Dewey and Dora Bare. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Tommy" Paul Higgins; a grandson, Larry Paul Rector; two sisters: Wanda Blackburn, Peggy Ziglar; two brothers: Clifford Bare, Clayton Bare; a nephew, Daren Ziglar. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. She enjoyed music and dancing at the Crouse House and the Jubilee.
Survivors include two daughters: Barbara Higgins Rector and husband Blake of Sparta, Belinda Higgins Masterjohn and husband Tony of Raeford; five grandchildren: Matthew Rector and wife Leisa of Ennice, Leanne James and husband Rob of Clyde, NC, Mariellen Rector of Lillington, NC, Conner Masterjohn and wife Hannah of Vass, NC, Haley Masterjohn of Greenville, NC; four great-grandchildren: Olivia Rector, Chloe Rector, Tucker James, Walker James; a brother-in-law, Charlie Ziglar; a sister-in-law, Louise Higgins; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Mary will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Brother Ed Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the friends and family who took part in her care and the staff of Medi-Home Hospice of Alleghany.
