Mark Patterson Sanders

Mark Patterson Sanders, 68, of Sparta, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2026.

Born on October 1, 1957, Mark was the son of the late Charles Mack Sanders and Ruth Pennell Sanders. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother, Charles Sanders of Sparta.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lori Sanders, of the home; his son, Rodney Tray Sanders and wife Becky; his stepson, Jonathan Watson and wife Brittney of Deep Gap, North Carolina; and his stepdaughter, Jessi Heacock of Wilkesboro, North Carolina. One sister Juanita Andrews of Roaring River, North Carolina.

He was also blessed with four grandchildren, Mastin (Brooklyn) Sanders (Sparta), Leah Sanders (Sparta), Nathan Watson (Deep Gap), and Shyanne Watson (Wilkesboro), as well as three great-grandchildren, a special nephew Paul Sanders of New Bern, NC, a special friend Gary Scott, as well as more nieces and nephews and many more friends.

Mark was a faithful member of West Side Baptist Church in Sparta. He loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to tell others what God had done in his life. His faith was the foundation of who he was and guided the way he loved and served those around him.

A true classic car enthusiast, Mark enjoyed sharing his passion with others. He was known for helping people whenever he could and for the many sayings, stories, and "Markisms" that brought smiles to those who knew him.

Mark leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church family, and all whose lives he touched.
