Marie Caudill Chappell, age 95, of 461 Air Bellows Gap Road, Sparta; passed away Sunday, December 12th, 2021 at her residence.
Marie was born December 1st, 1926 in Alleghany County to the late Coy and Ethel Atwood Caudill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Chappell, Sr.; three brothers: Leonard Caudill, Lebert Caudill, and Vern Caudill; two sisters: Elsie Reed and Ann Caudill. She was the owner/operator of Northside Drive-In in Sparta for many years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include two daughters: Vicki Thadani and husband Gill of Sparta, Martha Moxley of Roaring River; two sons: J.L. Chappell, Jr. and wife Catherine of Millers Creek, C.B. Chappell of Sparta; nine grandchildren: Jamie Thadani and wife Brittany, Sherri Smith and husband Matt, Leann Joines and husband Craig, David Thadani and wife Anna, Nathan Moxley and wife Melinda, Jennifer C. Severt, Crystal Chappell, Bruce Chappell and wife Eva, and Karina Absher and companion David Royall; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Caudill of Sparta; two sisters: Mattie Crouse and husband Raymond of Sparta, Shirley Watson and husband Blaine of Ennice.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Marie will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 at Landmark Baptist Church with Reverend J.L. Chappell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank a special niece, Karina Absher, Dr. Joe Arocha, Ramona Pardue, and Carley Brooke for the wonderful care given to Marie during her time of illness.
