Darliss Marcelene Hedrick Douglas, age 86, of Glade Valley, NC, formerly of Delta, PA, passed
away Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation in Independence,
VA, in the presence of her children, after a long battle with dementia, and more recently, a rapid
physical decline. Marcelene was born December 22, 1939, in York, PA, to Everette Cecil and
Elissie Baldwin Hedrick.
Marcelene lived most of her life in York County, PA. At age 13 she professed her faith in Jesus
Christ and was a lifelong member of Welcome Home Church in Airville, PA. Valedictorian of the
Class of 1958 of Lower Chanceford High School in Airville, PA, she willingly put her dreams on
hold to care for her aging grandparents. On November 26, 1968, she married the love of her life,
Harold Dean Douglas, and they were happily married until his death in 1992. A homemaker for
much of her life, she took pride in caring for her family. In 2004, she moved to Glade Valley to
live near her daughter's family. She volunteered at both Collinsville Library in Brogue, PA, and
the Glade Creek School library in Ennice, NC, for many years. She loved to read and instilled
that love into her children. Marcelene was passionate about growing flowers and was often
complimented by neighbors on how immaculately maintained her yard was. She also loved
cooking for and caring for her family and neighbors. She shared a family fondness for collecting
ladybug items, which filled her home. Her grandchildren often unsuccessfully attempted to count
all the ladybugs. While an excellent wife and mother, the title she most cherished was
"Grandma." She will be remembered for her sweet, unassuming nature.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marcelene was preceded in death by her beloved
stepmother, Lorena Baldwin Hedrick, brothers Dennis Hedrick and Charles Hedrick, and step
granddaughter, Kelly Joines.
Marcelene will be missed by many survivors including her daughter, Amy Douglas Evans and
husband Darryl of Glade Valley, and son, Jeffrey Douglas and wife Kerry of Eastampton, NJ.
Surviving grandchildren include Rianna Evans Cooke and husband Caleb of Bowie, MD, Caleb
Evans and fiancee Serenity Forthman of Davidson, NC, and Katie Douglas of Eastampton, NJ.
She is also survived by her step daughter, Debbie (Murphy) Brewer, step grandson, Justin
(Jessica) Brewer, and step great-grandchildren Brittany (Drew) Cantrell, Taranda (Brandon)
Nichols, Jackson Joines, Ella Brewer, and Eli Brewer. Surviving siblings include Wanda (Wilbur)
Golden, Verna Price, Curtis (Ella) Hedrick, Dawn (Jeff) Snell, Joann (Johnny) Spurlock, Mack
(Lisa) Hedrick, and Fern (Joe) Kozilski. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Geraldine Hedrick,
Marsha Hedrick, and Norma Absher, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to honor the life of Marcelene will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 25th, 2026 at Wagner-Elfner and Harkins Funeral Home in Delta, PA with Reverend Caleb Cooke officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Church Cemetery in Airville, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 24th, 2026 at the funeral home.
