Larry Junior Leath

Larry Junior Leath, age 77, of 2596 Mountain Lake Road, Ennice, NC; passed away Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 at Alleghany Health in Sparta, NC.

Larry was born July 17th, 1947 in Fries, VA to the late William Hassell and Mary Ellen Frazier Leath. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Leath; a sister, Peggy Cole; a brother-in-law, Whit Sizemore.

Larry served his country in the United States Army in the 5th Battalion 67th Artillery stationed in Fort Bliss, TX. Over the years, after his military service, Larry worked in a number of capacities. He was a heavy equipment operator, automotive repair technician, owned an automotive repair business before managing the family farm. He was a Board Member of Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed restoring old cars.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Loretta Killon Leath of the home; a son, Mark Leath and wife Kim of Wake Forest; a daughter, Christy Hawks and husband Nick of Ennice; three grandchildren: Easton Johnson of Ennice, Andrew Leath of Wake Forest, Abby Hawks of Ennice; a sister, Georgia Hooven and husband Doug of Galax, VA; a sister-in-law, Gelene Sizemore of Galax, VA; special caregivers: Denise Nelson, Teresa Woods, Lisa Higgins; several nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Larry will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 27th, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Saddle Mountain Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034 of Sparta. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm, Monday, August 26th, 2024 at the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
