Kemp Irwin

Charles "Kemp" Irwin, age 89 of Sparta, NC; passed away Friday, October 17th, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Kemp was born April 12th, 1936 in Alleghany County to the late Grady and Winnie Petty Irwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Kay Irwin; a son, Charles Franklin Irwin; a brother, James Irwin; a sister, Mary Lee Weaver. Kemp was a hard worker and loved truck driving and running heavy equipment. He enjoyed helping others.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Mabe Irwin of the home; two grandchildren: Kayla Stone and husband Willie of Sparta, Keyla Edwards and husband Tommy of Sparta; four great grandchildren: Dakota Stone, Dereck Stone, Cody Irwin, Mia Edwards, all of Sparta; two sons in law: Ricky Johnson and Kermitt Ham; a brother, Joe Thomas Irwin of Sparta; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services to honor the life of Kemp will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 26th, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Elder Wayne Todd and Roger Mabe officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
