John Curtis "Choppy" Bennett, Sr., age 51 of Ennice; passed away Monday, May 18th, 2026 at his residence.
Choppy was born October 1st, 1974 in Forsyth County to Betty Moxley Perez and the late John Coy "JC" Bennett.
Choppy was a friend to all, and to know him was to love him. No matter when you saw him, he was always the same - full of wit, laughter, and a spirited personality that brightened every room. He loved helping others and was always willing to give of himself, often putting the needs of others before his own. Choppy loved his family, and his pride and joy were his two grandchildren. For more than 30 years, he drove a tractor-trailer truck. He also served his community for 24 years as a member of the Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his fiancee, Rachel Viers of the home; seven children: John Curtis Bennett, Jr. (Elena) of Ennice, Joshua David Bennett (Hannah) of Fries, VA, Hunter Griffin of Sparta, Avery Griffin of Ennice, Jacob Griffin (Sara) of Ennice, Autumn McCoy of the home, Amber McCoy of the home; two grandchildren: Oaklyn Nicole Bennett of Ennice, Jayce Coy Bennett of Fries, VA; his mother, Betty Moxley Perez of Sparta; two brothers: Mitchell Bennett (Tina) of N. Wilkesboro, Matthew Mahan (Taylor) of Sparta; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Choppy will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, May 21st, 2026 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Max Combs and Allen Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorials be made to Thomas Family Funeral Service, PO Box 114 Sparta, NC 28675 to assist with funeral expenses.
