John Edward Phipps

John Edward Phipps, Sr., 81, of Elk Creek, Virginia, beloved husband of Earlene and cherished father of John Jr. and treasured family friend Melody of Boonville, North Carolina, Paula and husband Matt of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Vickie of Elk Creek and Daniel and wife Brittany of Rural Retreat, Virginia; went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 4, 2022. John was born in Grayson County, Virginia on July 14, 1940 to Joseph Neal and Florence Ellen Farmer Phipps. In addition to being survived by his wife and children, John leaves behind grandchildren Joseph, Jacob, Hayley, Brandon, Tosha, Brylee and Luke and also great-grandchildren Gabriel, Serahna and Fern. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Willie and James Phipps; three sisters: Addie Belle Shumate, Rena Kennedy, and Joey Bebber.

John was a strong, intelligent, loving, funny and courageous man who held tightly to his values of hard work and integrity. He was unwavering in his love of God, his family and his country.

Funeral Services to honor the life of John will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 8th, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Reverend Wilmer Shepherd officiating. A private interment will follow for family only at Cornett Cemetery in Elk Creek, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
