John Brady Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Brady, a beloved educator, community leader, and devoted family man, who departed this life at the age of 76 on October 10.

John served the Sparta Town Council for over 20 years, dedicating his life to the betterment of his community. His impact on education was profound, having worked in all the Alleghany schools. He spent 15 years as a 5th-grade teacher, followed by three years as the high school assistant principal. His leadership continued as the principal of Piney Creek Elementary for a decade and then as the principal of Sparta Elementary for three years before his well-earned retirement.

A passionate advocate for the arts, John was very involved in the Alleghany Arts Council, fostering creativity and cultural enrichment in the community.

After retirement, he pursued a lifelong passion for woodworking, founding Blue Ridge Woodcrafters. For over 20 years, he crafted beautiful wood home products that he proudly sold at various craft fairs and festivals, sharing his artistry with many.

John was known for his exceptional problem-solving skills and his ability to listen with compassion. Above all, he was a loving father and husband, married to his wife, Debbie Brady, for over 54 years.

John leaves behind a legacy of service, creativity, and love that will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family, numerous former students, and the community he so passionately served.
