John Coy Bennett

John "J.C." Bennett, age 80, of Sparta; passed away Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at this residence.

J.C. was born August 21st, 1942 in Alleghany County to the late Clayton and Mittie Shaw Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Reba Cheek, Retha Rash, Ruth Nelson Bennett, and Dorothy Wagoner; a brother, Clinton Bennett; a grandson, Jase Mahan; and his canine companion, Little Miss Fable.

Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Bennett of the home; three sons: John Curtis "Choppy" Bennett, Sr. of the home, Mitchell Blake Bennett and wife Tina of N. Wilkesboro, Matthew Curtis Mahan and wife Taylor of Sparta; seven grandchildren: John Curtis Bennett, Jr. and wife Elena of Sparta, Joshua David Bennett, Madison Barnes, Madalyn Mahan, Camlyn Mahan, and Willow Mahan all of Sparta, Courtney Shepherd of N. Wilkesboro, Anna Hash of Concord; two great-grandchildren: Oaklyn Bennett and Marz Mitchell; a brother, Charlie Bennett and wife Frances of Glade Valley; two sisters: Emmogene Mann and husband Freddie, Linda Lou "Penny" Bennett all of Taylors, SC; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of J.C. will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 8th, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Charlie Bennett and Robert Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
