Joe D. Leon

Joe D. Leon, age 68, of Piney Creek, NC and formerly of Miami, FL; passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022.

Joe was born on May 25th, 1954 in Havana, Cuba to the late Jose De Jesus Leon and Migdalia Lopez Leon. He retired after 30 years of service in Law Enforcement as a Lieutenant with the Miami Dade County Sheriffs Department in Florida. After his retirement, he and his wife relocated to Alleghany County and became the Owner Operator of Piney Creek General Store. He was a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Terry Leon; three children: Joey Leon and wife Erika of Pembroke Pines, FL, Christy Elias of Miami, FL, Susie Moss and husband Billy of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren: Isabell and Gabriel Leon, Guido Jose and Natalia Elias, Olivia and Chi Chi Moss; a sister, Alina Leon of Miami, FL; a niece, Alina Rodriquez; a nephew, Albert Rodriquez; extended family and friends also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 am Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church with Father Corey Catron officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Creek Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Thomas Family Funeral Service in Sparta.
