Jerry Thompson Barnes

Jerry Thompson Barnes, age 79 of Sparta, NC and formerly of Wilson, NC; passed away Friday, March 6th, 2026 at his residence.

Jerry was born August 1st, 1946 in Wilson, NC to the late Arthur and Dixie Thompson Barnes. He loved spending time with his family and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Barnes of the home; two step-sons: John Whisner (Lesley) of Roaring Gap, NC and Ben Whisner (Wendy) of Greenville, NC; five step-grandchildren: Bradley Whisner (Lyndsey), Samantha Lynch (Donavan), Tyler Whisner (Alexis), Alexis Wilson (Josh), and Jacob Whisner; three step-great-grandchildren: Mary Leighton Whisner, Madelyn Adele Whisner, and Ensley Kaye Wilson; extended family and friends also survive.

Jerry's family will hold a small private celebration of his life later this year in Wilson, where he was born.
