Janet Miles Obituary

Janet Poe Miles, born January 22nd, 1948 in Galax, VA to the late Virgil and Louise Poe, gained her wings September 1st, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love and care of her family.

Janet was the second of six children and also the second in a long line of "J's", Junior, Janet, Judy, Johnny, Janie, and Jill. When she looked back at her childhood Janet was proud of having been able to help her Mom care for their family. By all accounts, she was a mischievous child, full of spirit, often choosing to do exactly opposite of what she had been directed to do. She was more than once scolded for joy riding the family car down Main Street at "13."

Janet came to the Lord early in life, being a member of Crossroads Primitive Baptist Church. She was baptized and gave her eternal soul to the Lord in the waters of the Little River just above what we know as the low water bridge in Baywood, VA.

Janet attended Baywood Elementary and Galax High School. She was always a hard worker and held many jobs. She worked as a lab tech and was an x-ray tech for Alleghany Memorial for many years.

She married Wayne in March 1985, or you could say Wayne married Janet and her daughter Stef. Both ladies received a wedding ring in that ceremony. Together the three made a family. Not being absolutely complete, they had another child to complement their marriage. Paige was born in October 1987. Janet's pride and joy was her family. The brightest moments were seeing her girls grown, educated and Baptized in the faith. Stephanie and Paige were 17 years apart in birth, but side by side in her heart. Her fondest achievement was the inseparable bond created between the two girls.

Janet worked hard in the family business. She helped Wayne get Miles Tree Farms off the ground. She did all the payroll, billing and endless counting associated with selling trees. In 1989 they chose to start Pro Stop Convenience Store. This turned into 32 years of making folks happy. Janet excelled at providing the help that people needed. She was instrumental in developing many of the services provided there today.

Some of Janet's favorite things! The fostering of several children, passing along to them the joys of family and faith. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for a time. She greatly enjoyed riding horses, riding bikes, and eating at Hilton Head, SC, sitting in the sun in a rocking chair eating ice cream, dancing and riding anywhere with Wayne.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, D. Wayne Miles of the home; two children: Stephanie Miles and fiance Ernesto Ramirez of Sparta, Paige Miles Poe and husband Michael of Roaring Gap; three sisters: Judy Osborne and husband David of Independence, VA, Janie Poe of Piney Creek, Jill Osborne and husband Bill of Piney Creek; a brother, Johnny Poe of Piney Creek; father-in-law, Donald W. Miles, Sr. of Sparta; sisters-in-law: Susan Miles of Sparta, Nancy Fields and husband Jim of Greensboro, Laura Hubbard and husband Jule of Wilkesboro; six nephews; nine nieces; grandnieces; grandnephews; special caregivers: Jill Osborne, Janie Poe, and Beth Dixon; extended family and friends also survive.
