James David Sturgill

James "Jimmy" David Sturgill, age 73, of Cheraw, SC and formerly of Piney Creek, NC; passed away Friday, October 1st, 2021 at his residence in Cheraw.

Jimmy was born May 12, 1948 in Alleghany County, NC to the late Sidney Warren and Lorene Moxley Sturgill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Sturgill.

Jimmy was a 1966 graduate of Piney Creek High School, and was a 1970 graduate of North Carolina State University majoring in Biological and Agricultural Engineering and was a member of the ASAE Fraternity of North Carolina State University. He worked in the field of engineering for 51 years. He was very involved in his community and was a member of many organizations which include: Founding member and Treasurer of Thompson Creek Hunting Fellowship, MYOSA Youth Group, Master Mason and Member of Marlboro Masonic Lodge #88 in Bennettsville, SC, Past President and a Lifetime Member of Roxboro Jaycees. Jimmy was very active in his church at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in McFarlan, NC and he especially enjoyed hunting deer and turkey.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Gaddy Sturgill of the home; two nephews: Sid Carrier and wife Tammy of Piney Creek, Steve Carrier and wife Lindsay of Piney Creek; two nieces, Erin Baldwin and husband Blair of Columbia, SC, Kate Halsey and husband Josh of Finksburg, MD; great-nieces and great-nephews: Megan Carrier, Mason Carrier, Bailey Gates, Tori Gates all of Piney Creek, Silas Baldwin, Vess Baldwin, and Elizabeth Baldwin all of Columbia, SC; special friends: Meredith, Scott, and Ali Therrien of Garner, NC.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Jimmy will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 6th, 2021 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Brother Hugh Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund, c/o David Lambert, 238 Fairview Road, Laurel Springs, NC 28644.

The Family would respectfully ask that no food be brought to the home.
