James Walter Cox

James "Jim" Walter Cox of Ennice; passed away Saturday, April 19th, 2025 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC.

Jim was born August 27th, 1939 in Galax, VA to the late Arthur and Velva Winesette Cox. He was a graduate of Galax High School, retired from Bellsouth and was a long and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters: Lori Large, Virginia Bowers, Dorothy Davis, Shirley Harless and Patsy Hough; one brother, Sonny Cox.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joan M. Cox of the home; two sons: Jimmy Cox and wife Jeannette of Crumpler, Barry Cox and wife Melissa of Glendale Springs; four grandchildren: Nathan Cox and wife Courtney of Cherry Lane, Jaclyn Cox of Greensboro, Pierce Cox and wife Kaitlyn of West Jefferson, Olivia Sloan and husband Simeon of Myrtle Beach; three great-grandsons: Silas, Abram and Jude Cox; three brothers: Bill Cox of Galax, VA Clarence Cox of Cocoa Beach, FL and Arthur Cox and wife Faye of Galax; one sister, Betty Cox of Galax; a special niece, Vicky Richardson of Galax; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Sparta with Reverend Matt Harris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
