Jack Wagoner Obituary

Andrew Jackson "Jack" Wagoner, age 87, of Sparta; passed away Friday, May 19th, 2023 at his residence.

Jack was born May 23rd, 1935 in Alleghany County to the late Andy and Ollie Carico Wagoner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora Sue Parsons Wagoner; a brother, James Troy "JT" Wagoner; a sister, Vena Ree Waddell.

Jack was a native of Alleghany County. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, owned and operated the Gulf Service Station for many years and worked with the ABC store for 27 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, cars and motorcycles.

Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Choate Wagoner of the home; a son, Kevin S. Wagoner (Melissa); a step-son, Chad Billings (Brandon); a step-daughter, Bretta Gardner (Clifton); a granddaughter, Cydnie Gardner; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends also survive.

In keeping with Jack's wishes, he is to be cremated. A graveside service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 26th, 2023 at Sparta Cemetery with Reverend John Attaway officiating. No formal visitation will be held.

The family respectfully request no food or visitors at the home.

In appreciation, the family would like to thank Dr. Julie Taylor at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, his doctor, Dr. Will Ballard, Yadkin Valley Home Health, Mountain Valley Hospice and especially their family for the love, help, and care given to them during his illness.
