Hugh Shepherd of 306 Saddleview Road Ennice, NC went to be with his Lord on September 11th, 2025.
Hugh was born April 21st, 1941 to Grover Walter and Inez Caudill Shepherd. He was a retired truck driver for several companies with 40+ years of service and several million miles of travel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Holton Shepherd and Carlyle Shepherd; a sister, Alease Shepherd; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Shepherd.
Hugh was an active member of Rich Hill Church where he served many years as a deacon. He enjoyed leading his church family in hymns. He has served many years on the Board of Directors for Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department where he proudly represented them in the community through countless mud slings, rodeos and money draws.
Left to cherish the memory of Hugh is his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Killon Shepherd; two sons: Doug Shepherd and wife Bethany of Dobson and Tony Shepherd and wife Ramona of Sparta. He was loved by his four granddaughters: Jessica and Billy Melton of Ennice, Abigail and RJ Moore of Mt. Airy, Sarah and Joe Harasti of Oxford, Jade Shepherd and fiance Matt Ratliff of Abingdon, Va and one grandson, Tayler Shepherd and fiance Gracie Johnson of Sparta; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Shepherd of Mt. Airy; extended family and many friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Hugh will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 15th, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Elders Wayne Todd and Larry Woodle officiating. Interment will follow at Saddle Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
