Hilda Wagoner Souther

Hilda Wagoner Souther, age 86 of Sparta, NC; passed away Thursday, October 2nd, 2025 at Pruitt Health in Elkin, NC.

Hilda was born May 24th, 1939 in Alleghany County to the late Bays and Stella Osborne Parsons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hort Souther; a son, Gregory A. Wagoner; and several special family members and friends.

Hilda worked in many organizations and worked for several businesses in Alleghany County and surrounding areas. She was a member of the Sparta Town Council and worked with Northwestern Bank, Dr. Jack Ashley, Sparta School, but most notably she was the owner of the Front Porch Dress Shop. Hilda loved taking care of people of all ages by clothing them, feeding them and mentoring them. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and going to the beach. Most of all, Hilda loved her family, friends and her dogs.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Wagoner Miller and husband Chip of Springdale, AR; a daughter in law, Rita Proffit Wagoner of Sparta; four grandchildren: Lindsay Wagoner Todd and husband A. J. of Sparta, Lauren Wagoner Irwin and husband Jacob of Sparta, Gordon Paul Miller of Berryville, AR, Cullen Gregory Miller of Springdale, AR; four great grandchildren: Stella Reece Todd, Kinley Hazel Irwin, Saylor Jaymes Todd, Kimberlin Hilda Irwin, all of Sparta; her former husband and father of Greg and Paula, Paul Wagoner of Sparta; special family and friends also survive.

There is no doubt that Hilda was happily greeted with open arms by Greg, Hort, her family, and friends who have gone on before her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, December 22nd, 2025 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
