Gregory Alan Wagoner

Gregory Alan Wagoner, age 61, of the Turkey Knob Community of Sparta at 971 Cindylane Road, Sparta; passed away Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021 in Sparta.

Greg was born October 19th, 1959 in Killeen, TX to Paul Wagoner and Hilda Parsons Wagoner. He was the Owner/ Operator of G.W. Trucking and provided services to many businesses and property owners in Alleghany and surrounding areas. Greg enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends, never meeting a stranger. He was a member of Piney Creek Masonic Lodge#432.

Greg was preceded in death by a half-brother, Ryan Wagoner; his step-mother, Sue Delp Wagoner; his step-father, Hort Souther.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Proffit Wagoner of the home; two children: Lindsay Wagoner Todd and husband A.J. of Sparta, Lauren Wagoner Irwin and husband Jacob of Sparta; four grandchildren: Stella and Saylor Todd, Kinley and Kimberlin Irwin; his mother, Hilda Wagoner Souther of Pruitt Health in Elkin; his father, Paul Wagoner of Sparta; a sister, Paula Wagoner Miller and husband Chip of Springdale, AR; three brothers-in-law: Rocky Proffit and wife Tammy of Mooresville, Rick Proffit and wife Dianne of Laurel Springs, Brady Proffit and wife Mitzi of Sparta; many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members also survive.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Greg will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 7th, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service, 115 Hawthorne Street, Sparta, NC with Brett Jarrett officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Piney Creek Masonic Lodge# 432 and Sparta Masonic Lodge# 423. No visiting hours will be held at the funeral home. If you wish, you may visit the family at the residence during reasonable visiting hours.
