Grace Sexton

In the early hours of May 29,2023, Grace Caudill Sexton passed away at age 90.  Grace had a “green thumb” and always looked forward to the spring and the ability to work in her beautiful flower beds and vegetable garden. She and her late husband, Dodge, would supply vegetables to many at harvest times. Every year she would request we travel to Wildcat Rock Overlook to view the Caudill Cabin where she would relate to family and visitors stories of her grandparents, Martin and Janie Caudill.  Far below you could view the tiny cabin and through her stories you could visualize the settlement that once thrived in this isolated area. Grace loved music, reading and writing stories or poetry, several of which were published. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Dodge Sexton; an infant daughter, Karen Gail Sexton. She was the third child born to the late Marvin and Mary Blevins Caudill.  Siblings preceding her in death were Presley Caudill, Gladys Todd (Rex), Paul Caudill and Muriel Toliver (Clarence), a granddaughter, Cherie Kelly and two step granddaughters, Autumn Lockamy and Sinea Padgett.

Surviving are her children, Steve Sexton and wife Sandy, Pam Brady and husband Rick; one brother Marvin Caudill Jr. and wife Mildred; two grandsons, Stephen Halasz IV and Khris Kelly; two step grandchildren Lacona Lundy and Randy Anders; six step great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren.  Three sisters in law survive: Mary Alice Hudson, Eva Lee Caudill, and Georgia Johnson.

The family will receive friends at Thomas Family Funeral Service in Sparta on Friday, June 2 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, with the service at 2:00 pm.  Following the service, Grace will be laid to rest with her beloved Dodge at the New Haven Cemetery.

The family would like to express their thanks for the nurses and therapist from Medi Home Health who have provided wonderful services the past few years. A very special thank you to the senior service volunteers who not only delivered meals but provided daily joy with their visits.
