Freddie Lee Moxley

Freddie Lee Moxley, age 69 of Cherry Lane, NC; passed away Friday, July 11th, 2025 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC.

Freddie was born in Alleghany County to the late Reece and Dorothy Ashbough Moxley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Danny Moxley and David Moxley; a brother-in-law, Gary Sebastian. Freddie enjoyed fishing, going to watch Johnny race, spending time outdoors, and tinkering in the garage. He never hesitated to tell you what was on his mind, he was tough as nails.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rita Moxley of the home; three children: Steve L. Moxley and wife Melissa of Cherry Lane, NC, Candice T. Moxley of Sparta, NC, Chad Moxley and wife  Audrey Clyburn of Sparta, NC.; eight grandchildren: Krestin S. Moxley, Meaghan Evans, Isaiah Barker, Elijah Barker, Sidney Arevalo, Dylan Moxley, Kylie Moxley, Gracie Moxley; two brothers: Johnny Moxley and wife Janie of Galax, VA, Ritchie Moxley and wife Carla of Sparta, NC; four sisters: Patsy Pugh of Mouth of Wilson, VA, Nyoka Carico and husband Danny of Sparta NC, Susie Sebastian of Wilkesboro, NC, Mitzi Biggins and husband Dan of Sparta, NC.

A graveside service to honor the life of Freddie will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Doug Combs officiating. No formal visitation will be held.

To honor Freddie's life in a way that reflects who he truly was, a Celebration of Life dinner will be held at Sparta Church of God Fellowship Hall on Moxley Hollow Rd. Sparta, NC, at 4:00 pm following the graveside service. The family asks that you attend and invites you to bring a dish, dessert, or snack that reminds you of Freddie. This can be something he liked or one that simply makes you think of him. This will be a time to share stories, enjoy good food, and memories that speak to the kind of man he was. A man who was real, tough, and unforgettable.
