Eugene R. Pruitt, age 65, of 221 Lucas Street, Sparta, NC; passed away Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Eugene was born March 14th, 1956 in Alleghany County to the late Ralph Willard Pruitt and Marie Jessie Dancy Pruitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Pruitt; his father-in-law, John Harrison Barnes.
Eugene took care of many people of Alleghany County over the years serving as a Paramedic with the Alleghany Emergency Medical Services retiring after 33 years of service but remaining employed part-time until his death. He was a member of Alleghany Rescue Squad where he also retired after 39 years of voluntary service. In addition to serving in a medical capacity, Eugene was a member of the Alleghany Honor Guard. Above all of his accomplishments professionally, he was a family man first and foremost. He loved spending time with his family and loved each and every one of them. He loved riding his Harley Davidson with his wife and special friends attending rallies each year. He had a huge heart, soft voice and a calming personality.
Left to cherish the memory of Eugene is his wife of 36 years, Bonnie Barnes Pruitt of the home; his daughter, Brandi Pruitt Reedy and husband Mitchell of Sparta; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Laura Sheets of Sparta; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Richard Barnes, Philip and Marlene Shaw, David and Juanita Harris, David and Connie Brooks, Carol Gaultney and J.R. all of Sparta. Special friends, Carl and Janet Moss; step-brothers and sisters-in-law: Vikki Lisicky, Michael Sheets, Tami Toy, Robin Sparks, and Mark Sheets; Many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Eugene will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, April 11th, 2021 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Reverend Danny Pruitt and Reverend John Huffman officiating. His brother-in-law, Philip Shaw will be giving the Eulogy. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery. Honors for years of service in the Rescue Squad and Emergency Services will be given by the Alleghany Honor Guard and Squad. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
In honor of Eugene, the family request that anyone wanting to come and ride your motorcycle and take part in the procession to the cemetery to please do so. Biker attire will be appropriate. We ask that everyone riding and taking part to please gather at the funeral home no later than 2:45 pm prior to the service.
