Elder Dan Edwards

Elder Daniel Robert Edwards, Sr., age 91 of Sparta; passed away Friday, October 31st, 2025 at his residence.

Dan was born June 26th, 1934 in Alleghany County to the late Carl and Laura Joines Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Jolene McClure Edwards; a son, John Edwards; a grandson, Lucas Edwards; two brothers: Claude and Kermit Edwards; two sisters: Lorraine Underwood and Loueva Blackburn.

Dan was a member of Whitehead Baptist Church where he served as the Elder for more than 50 years. He was a member of Sparta Masonic Lodge #423 AF & AM. He loved woodworking and reading his Bible.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Edwards of the home; four children: Robert Daniel Edwards, Jr. (B.J.) of Sparta, Carlton Edwards (Diana) of Ennice, Kathy West (Gary) of Laurel Springs, Patsy Hoppers (Alex) of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren: Justin West (Kayla), Joseph West, Daniel West, Shane Smith (Amanda), Brad Smith (Becky), Seth Bottomley (Lakela), Tyler Edwards (Erika), Drew Edwards (Megan); nine great grandchildren; two step grandchildren:
Ben Smith, Hillary Potter (Shawn); eight step great grandchild; special friends, Elaine Thomas, Kim Nichols, and Jean Hoppers; extended family and many friends also survive.

Funeral services to honor the life of Dan will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 3rd, 2025 at Whitehead Baptist Church with Brother Ed Hall and Reverend Charlie Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Whitehead-Joines Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
