Obituary

Eileen Kelsey Elrod, age 76, of Sparta, NC; passed away Sunday, March 13th, 2022 at Alleghany Health in Sparta.

Eileen was born February 8th, 1946 in Davison County, SD to the late Hagen and Ellen Coney Kelsey. She was a retired educator. She had a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Economics, two Master's Degrees in Guidance Education and Library Science. Eileen was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Piney Creek, NC. She especially loved needle working, sending many of her creations to the South Dakota and North Carolina State Fairs, where she obtained many awards.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Dr. Joseph Elrod of the home; two sisters: Elizabeth Kelsey of Bottineau, ND, Cheryl Kelsey of Sheridan, WY; a sister-in-law, Martha Eggers of Rural Retreat, VA; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Memorial Services to honor the life of Eileen will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9th, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hagen Kelsey Scholarship Endowment at South Dakota State University Foundation, Lohr Building, 815 Medary Avenue, Brookings, SD 57006 or to Appalachian State University, Advancement Services, Watson Brumit Hall, ASU Box 32014, Boone, NC 28608, Attention: Joseph H. and Eileen K. Elrod Endowment for Biology Income Scholarship.
