Doris Jean (Nimmo) Howell

Doris Jean Howell, age 87, of 39 Brandal Lane, Sparta, NC; passed away Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at her residence.

Doris was born April 18th, 1936 in Roanoke, VA to the late Dewey Edward Nimmo and Martha Trent Nimmo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Buford Ray Howell; a son-in-law, Billy Wayne Crouse; nine brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Crouse of the home; a granddaughter, Brandy M. Ortz and husband Mike of Huntington Beach, CA; two great-granddaughters: Stella Claire Ortz and Scarlett Jane Ortz of Huntington Beach, CA; a step-grandson: Bryan Crouse and wife Emily; step-great granddaughters: Lauren Smith and husband Cody of Tobaccoville, Kaitlyn Houck and husband Tyler of Sparta, Laken Calhoun and husband Carter of Sparta; step great-great grandchildren: Cooper, Lilah, and Cash Smith, Mckinley and Brooklynn Houck, Canaan and William Calhoun; several nieces and nephews all of Roanoke, VA also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Doris will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Wagg officiating. Interment will follow at Elk Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
