Doris Ann (Billings) Dotson

Our beloved mother and granny, Doris Ann Billings Dotson, took her heavenly flight peacefully at her home in the Cherry Lane Community of Glade Valley, NC, surrounded by family on Friday, October 11th, 2024.

Doris was born February 3rd, 1947, in Sparta to Eli James Billings, Sr and Ruby Mae Crouse Billings. Doris moved to Maryland where she met and married Willie Thurston Dotson. They were married for 52 years, 1 month and 14 days. They had two daughters, Theresea and Donna. In Doris' later years she became known affectionately to many as Granny Doris.

Granny Doris loved her gardens whether vegetables or flowers. She enjoyed the sunshine and warm weather, especially spending time at the beach. She enjoyed reading, cooking and sharing her treats with everyone. She gave from her heart, caring for many children who meant the world to her. She loved all of them dearly and considered them to be family. She loved the Lord and rejoiced in listening to Bluegrass gospel music.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Willie; brothers: DC, Dock, Bert, James, PK, Cecil, Rufus, and Junior; sisters: Mattie, Alma and Reba.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Theresea Ann Dotson Cole and husband Larry, and Donna Lynne Dotson McCraw and husband Donald; grandsons, Riley Clay Billings, Shane Williams and wife Toni; great-granddaughter, Lila Williams; brother, Elder Kyle Jordan and wife Judy; special family and friends, Donya Rae Joines and husband Jim; Thomas Edward Billings; Robin and Jimmy Bugielski; Faith and Karsen; Sue Shaw; special cousins, Wanda Lyons and Barbara Fulbright; all of the children God brought into her life for her to give her special care; her Beach Family; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Special thank you to the team at Medi-Home Health and Hospice for their dedication and compassion for caring for our loved one during her sickness.

Funeral services to honor the life of Doris will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, October 14th, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church with Brothers James Woodruff and Ed Hall officiating. Special Speakers, Grant Caudill and Bynum Marshall. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence on Cherry Lane Road in Glade Valley.
