Dorcas Hall Wagoner, age 90, of 135 Rivers Edge Road, Sparta, NC; passed away Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 at her residence.
Dorcas was born June 28th, 1932 in Ashe County, NC to the late Bill and Mary Shepherd Hall. She was retired after 39 years of service from Hanes Knitwear and was a member of Sparta United Methodist Church. She loved flower gardening and being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Wagoner; a son-in-law, Dale Caudill; two sisters: Myrtle Hall and Lillie Mae Davis; two brothers: Robert Hall and Clinton Hall.
Dorcas is survived by three daughters: Peggy Hart Denny and husband Clay of Hendersonville, Mary Crouse and husband Dennis of Ennice, Nancy Hart Caudill of Boone; seven grandchildren: Chris Denny and wife Jill, Laura Freeman and husband Jamie, Amy Bazley and husband Doug, Tammy Irwin and husband Bryan, Wendy Jordan and husband Patrick, Jenny Perez and husband Joe, Allison Grant and husband Michael; twenty-one great-grandchildren; a brother, Buster Hall and wife Charlotte of Reidsville; she was "Nanny" to Jeremiah, Luke and Jake Hampton; two step-sons: Garland Wagoner and wife Tammy, Brian Wagoner and wife Paula; three step-grandchildren: Fallon, Garrison and Allie Wagoner; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends also survive.
Dorcas leaves behind quite a legacy. Three beautiful daughters who she adored. Seven grandchildren who've been fully loved and supported by her. And 21 great-grandchildren who were blessed to know, love, and build many traditions with her. She was faced with challenges in life that would break the average person yet she always persevered and never let it keep her down. She was a lover of her family, her church, her flowers, her garden, UNC basketball, square dancing and reading. She will be remembered for her strength, perseverance, tenacity, endearing stubbornness, and love. She valued her family above all else and was the needle that knit them together. Each year she gathered her family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, never worrying how all 41 family members would fit in her home or how much food it would take to fill their bellies. She got the job done, and usually wouldn't accept help! She created traditions that will continue forever in her family as her great-grandchildren grow and have their own families. She ended every phone call, card, and visit with two precious words that will always be carried on, "Love ye". She is not in our past, she is in our future and we will walk all over Heaven with her some sweet day. until we meet again, "Love ye".
Funeral Services to honor the life of Dorcas will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at Sparta United Methodist Church with the Reverends Michelle Foster-Beckerleg and Tom Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
