Dean Allen Deter

Dean Allen Deter, of Sparta; passed away Tuesday, December 14th, 2021 in Sparta.

Dean was born April 23rd, 1945 in Findlay, Ohio. He was raised in Ohio, graduated high school in Mississippi, attended the University of Southern Mississippi, graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and completed his Masters Degree at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

A poet at heart, Dean spent many years teaching English at colleges and high schools around the eastern United States. Dean and Ellen moved to Sparta in 1989 when Dean taught at Alleghany High School. Dean spent many hours working on their farm in Piney Creek. He loved raising animals, whether cows, sheep, or goats.

Dean is survived by his wife, Ellen, and son, Dan, daughter-in-law Heather, and step-grandson Campell. His surviving sisters are Susie Deter, Mary Ann Klosterman, and Jeanie Daggan, and sisters-in-law Carol Roscher, Janet Bevilacqua, and Margo Cannell. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

No formal services will be held.
