Daniel "Danny" Joseph Sturgill

Daniel "Danny" Joseph Sturgill Sr., age 80 of Piney Creek, NC; passed away Thursday, January 4th, 2024 in Bolivia, NC.

Danny was born August 30th, 1943 in Prince George's County, MD to the late David and Marie Halsey Sturgill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Burchette Sturgill; a daughter, Teresa Sturgill; a brother, John Sturgill.

Danny retired from the Piney Creek Volunteer Fire Department where he was a founding member, also retiring from the Alleghany County Rescue Squad and the Alleghany Emergency Medical Services. He loved bluegrass music, woodworking and motorcycles.

Survivors include four daughters: Rhonda Steffenhagen and husband Larry of Bolivia, Amanda Sawyer and husband Glwyn of Bolivia, Cat Perry and husband Sammy of Piney Creek, Tammy Crose of Morehead, KY; a son Daniel Sturgill, Jr and wife Lise of Victoria British Columbia; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Thom Sturgill and wife Joyce of Fort Pierce, FL; two sisters: Becky Smith and husband Cliff of Piney Creek, Barbie Atwood and husband Ronnie of Piney Creek; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Danny will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 at New Home Free Will Baptist Church in Piney Creek with Reverend Eric Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alleghany County Rescue Squad, PO Box 351 Sparta, NC 28675.
